Investing in Abilene’s Next Generation Workforce
The NextU Program is a highly focused initiative designed to grow Abilene’s talent pipeline by aligning education with industry needs.
“Funded by the Development Corporation of Abilene, the NextU Program equips our high school students with the skills they need to thrive in tomorrow’s workforce.”
Empowering Students Across Diverse Discipline
The Development Corporation of Abilene (DCOA) has partnered with the Abilene Independent School District (Abilene ISD) and Wylie Independent School District (Wylie ISD) to support students seeking careers in Science, Technology, Engineering & Math and Career Technical Education fields such as engineering, electrical power and controls, welding, airframe and powerplant, and software engineering.
“NextU’s support of high school students creates a great pipeline of qualified candidates for Rentech. NextU ensures that the students focus on both the technical aspects of employability and the soft skills that are needed.”
Hands-On Learning. Real-World Skills.
The NextU program provides opportunities for students to graduate high school with the experience and industry certifications necessary to be hired by Abilene’s existing employers.
“NextU provided me an opportunity to go after my passion and make it into a career. The program helps you figure out what you want to study and provide scholarships to go to school and also helps place you in a job once you complete the program.”
NextU changed my view of what opportunities are available for students and helped me achieve my goal of continuing in aerospace engineering. The NextU Program supported me and provided new opportunities for a firsthand education.
